Things To Do in New Mexico : Have you ever heard of Clovis, New Mexico? If not, let me be the first to introduce you! Located in eastern New Mexico, Clovis is a small city that is full of history and charm. Clovis has plenty of activities to offer visitors looking for a fun time. One such activity is a visit to the Five Heart Farms located just outside of town in Texico, NM. This unique farm offers visitors a chance to explore the best highlights of the local area. From homegrown meats to workshops to pick-your-own fruits and vegetables, there’s something for everyone at Five Heart Farms.
I relocated to Clovis, NM from Hawaii about a year ago and Five Heart Farms has been my favorite place to escape to every season. They throw events year round with the core of everything being local businesses.
Fun & Events
My first time attending was their fall event with pumpkin picking, local food trucks, and all things fall. My kids and I had a blast! They also host various events throughout the year such as festivals, concerts, and more. These events are great ways to get out and explore all that Clovis has to offer—not only can you help support sustainable farming practices but you also enjoy some live music or take part in other fun activities like feed the animals and hayrides. Be sure to check out their website for upcoming events before planning your trip!
They are open year round but during their summer and fall season they offer a range of events for a great mom-night-out by yourself or family events to help keep your kids off their cell phones and appreciate the beauty around them. They offer fun events such as U-Pick flowers where they have floral arrangements for you to choose from or you can pick your own straight from their farm. Pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins when they are in season. How often have you had the opportunity to visit a real pumpkin patch and pick your own? Talk about a real life Charlie Brown and the great big pumpkin experience.
My kids favorite event so far was their “Christmas At The Farm” market + holiday extravaganza. My kiddos absolutely adored and had a blast enjoying the Christmas cattle hayride feeding the cows and the pigs. The kids cozied up together and bundled up our hot chocolates and hopped on the back of the ride as we viewed the rustic landscape. The driver taught us how they raise the animals and then stopped the ride briefly to grab a few left over pumpkins from the patch. Then came the close up experience where we got to feed the cows and pigs. I think I captured at least two of my favorite shots of all time. In my photographic adventures regarding animals – I have captured horses, fish, dogs, a family portrait session with a rabbit, and most recently Alpacas (yes – Alpacas at Windrush Farm) but will save that for a well deserved separate blog). And now – cows and pigs lol! My youngest daughter’s face when the cow licked her hand and the aftermath – priceless! Feeding the pigs one looked right at my camera like excuse me I am doing what pigs do – do you have a problem?! lol
Add to add the cherry on top I was able to get a couple stocking stuffers and knock off a few items from my Christmas gifts list – thanks to a few local vendors.
Things to Do New Mexico – Support Local
If you don’t know it – I am a total foodie! So anywhere with good food, good people, and good music count me in. Their past events included great businesses from the area that you should definitely check out:
Mommas Hands – A family owned business specializing in soul food. Listen to me – make sure that when you know they will be in attendance that you arrive early and try her awesome fried chicken, astounding mac and cheese and Gourmet homemade cheesecakes. They offer gluten free products, that taste just a good as the rest
Jettfire Barbeque offering award winning briskets, pork spare ribs, chicken, ribeye steaks and all.
Roosevelt Brewing – A brewery and pub with locations in Clovis, NM and Portales, NM. Experience New Mexico craft beers and wines with their fresh baked pizza pies. A great way to spend any brunch!
Williams Livestock Ranch – A veteran owned small business and farm serving quality handmade goat milk care products. Living here – Clovis NM may not appear to look like the traditional desert but the air here will prove you wrong lol. I battle with eczema and came across their oatmeal soap and lotion and it has helped me out tremendously. I highly recommend if you have sensitive skin issues. On a separate note, they have an animal farm that you can rent for birthday parties/events.
